One of Winnipeg's hidden culinary gems. With a little more marketing they'd be taking reservations weeks in advance. The atmosphere is upscale and cordial with a lounge and restaurant combined in a chic open air space. The furnishings (you should see those tables!) give glimpses of a vintage, more authentic world - with the menu to match. And the staff are remarkable - friendly, and fun to interact with. Try their steaks especially - easily comparable to anything you'll find at pricier venues.
I’ve dined here several times before and I’m never disappointed. The food is always delicious and served in a polite and courteous manner. I greatly appreciate the COVID guidelines the restaurant is following. As a guest who also works with the public, with or without this global pandemic, the staff made my guests and I feel very safe and welcome. I will continue to dine here over and over again. Thank you Merchant Kitchen! (Ps get the steak it is SOOOO good!)
The lady who served us - Alexa, was very pleasant and patient. The food tasted very delicious. Mocha tart dessert was🤩. The only not so great thing is the cocktails are $$$ (but worth it if you're into cocktails that much). Overall I recommend
This was my first time here. I have heard lots and had high expectations, I suppose that is where things go wrong. I expected a higher dining experience. Being greeted by the server "hey guys can I get you a drink" I would expect at Perkins. The service was lackluster. We had our main delivered after we finished our appetizers. The fellow dropped the new dish on the table, walked away and left our old dirty plates behind. I had to get up to go find someone to help get us new plates. When we finished, we sat for probably 10 minutes with our items ready to be boxed or some acknowledgment. Here's the thing, there were maybe 7 or 8 tables, it was not busy and you can see all the staff congregating at the end of the bar drinking out of their water bottles and talking. The server was kind, but we were not a priority. I have served previously and you OWN that table and their experience. It was our 10 year wedding anniversary (my husband picked the place as he has been here and liked it previously) and it was disappointing. I would not return. The food was decent. Rice was mushy. The beet salad appetizer is really good. This is the only saving grace.
Great food! So delicious, expensive, but worth it. Great atmosphere, music, and service. We'll be back, Merchant Kitchen!
