The food is fast and fresh. I found the Caesar salad bland (not garlicky enough) and overpriced. The pizzas were better. The ferrero dessert pizza would be even better with a scoop of ice cream on it. My kids enjoyed everything.
Good pizza, but the St. Mary location is closed permanently
We've been to the Carbone's on Taylor a number of times - this was my family's first evening at the downtown location. My glass had 2 sets of large lipstick prints on it. When I mentioned it to the server she picked up a replacement glass for a nearby table, examined it and found it to also be dirty and selected a different glass. The glass my drink order was brought in was also smudged and dirty, so I used a straw and tried not to think about how dirty the inside might be. It left me wondering how dirty the rest of the place was, but my family was on a schedule and we couldn't leave. My drink tasted really funny, like the mix was off and I asked if I could get a different drink and the server sort of debated it by saying the ice had changed the flavour. Funny thing to choose to debate, given that it might have been the dirty glass I was tasting! My wife asked for the dinner prices, because we'd been given lunch menus and it became a big awkward experience, when all we needed was a dinner menu. There was other stuff I didn't care for, but 2 stars because pizza is difficult to do poorly.
We ate the Italian model and the garlic chili lime prawns - both delicious, one of the best pizzas in the city. The pizza could have been served faster since it was lunch time and we nearly ended up late back to the office. I think they were waiting for us to finish the appetizer, but should realize people who come in at lunch time are on break and shouldn't treat the situation like dinner. I would go back for dinner, maybe not lunch due to inconvenience.
We went on a Saturday evening around 6pm. It wasn't too busy, and all of the staff were very attentive and helping each other out. Kadi was our server and came around just the right amount of times. We had the hummus and brushetta which was really really good, and a 16 inch calabrese which was cooked perfectly. They had no problem substituting caramelized onions for the olives on the pizza. Nice atmosphere, the lounge makes you forget you're out in the suburbs. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
