Reas about this place in the paper, their web site looked interesting so we checked it out. My wife and I love cooking and are always interested in middle eastern food. It is a small somewhat crowded establishment, buts lots of neat stuff. There have their own butcher and make dairy products, like feta cheese and their version of youghurt. We arrived when they were getting their meat delivered, (always a good sign when the delivery guy buys his lunch at the shop). Lots of middle eastern canned goods and dried goods. I was impressed at the variety of spices, some of which I didn't know. They also have fresh baked goods, different types of pitas, baklava and other goodies. There is a corner where they make manakish, a mideast version of a pizza sort of, basically a Flatbread with toppings baked in a hot oven, various toppings, but no tomato sauce. We split a zartaar and cheese and a cheese and black olive and both were delicious. The owners are sure trying hard, we had lots of help and they answered our questions without any problems. We are definitely including this place in our supply chain. There seems to be some parking behind the store, on the back lane, but we couldn't access it as it was very busy. There is 1 hr parking on the side streets so we didn't have to walk far.
I have been many times to pick up hummus and fresh pitas for home and potlucks. The deli has tons of delicious food and I try and pick up something new every time I go. Staff have always been super kind and helpful. The young dude on the til is always a gem. Highly recommend!
Really great place! A solid selection of Middle Eastern foods, some fresh feta and meat options, and freshly made pita. You will not find pita like this anywhere else in Winnipeg. They also make manakish. Lots of staff around to help and they're incredibly friendly. Update: I wrote the above review a month ago. I was back at Blady today and would like to give more than 5 stars. Incredibly helpful staff. I had forgotten my bike lock and the staff helped me sort out how to buy things without having my bike stolen. Smiling staff helped me in various places throughout the store.
Always had fantastic service in the store and the products are great as well! Lots of interesting items to try and fresh pita bread and fresh lebneh too!
I appreciate that they have some options for buying things unpackaged. Not all staff are entirely familiar with how to tare on the scale, but generally, if you plan ahead, you can have your yogurt, feta and olive oil dispensed into your own container so you don't have to keep polluting the world with unnecessary single-use plastic.
